University Station, next to the University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston campus, has seen passenger numbers rise by more than 700% since it opened in 1978. It is getting an upgrade in time for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The new railway station building will feature wider platforms, new lifts, a ticket office, provision for a retail unit, canopy coverage along the platforms and a footbridge over the canal to the university campus. The existing station building will be retained as a passenger exit from the station.
Stanta have been working closely with Alucraft to set out the framing design and are due to commence installation over the coming weeks. For more information and project photos please see our project page.
